ReUse Community Fund

The ReUse Community Fund is an initiative to help citizens in need by providing them with ReUse store credit. ReUse will match every donated dollar with an additional dollar from our stores, effectively doubling the impact of your donation!

About the program

ReUse has always been committed to improving the quality of life in Tompkins County (and around) by finding new ways to relieve poverty and hardship through waste reduction. Our store items are already priced at 50-90% below regular retail prices to make them as affordable as possible. We also recognize that there are people in need who may not be able to afford our products and hence the Community Fund was born. The community fund is our way to further help our community by matching every donation equally with funds of our own.

How does it work?

We accept referral applications for store credits from human service agencies. To find a comprehensive list of agencies in Tompkins and Cortland County, please go to the Human Service Coalition's list of services at 211.org. Referrals can be made through an online Reuse Community Fund Referral Form, to be posted here soon. To refer a potential ReUse Community Fund recipient, please complete the Reuse Community Fund Referral Form.

We will follow up with you once the referral has been processed, with instructions for the participant on how to redeem their store credit. The participant you refer will have 60 days to use their credit. We will send both you and the participant a notification 14 days before its expiration if your participant does not use all of their credit by this time. A follow-up survey will be sent to your client following the expiration of their credit to help us improve the effectiveness of the Community Fund.

Funds are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. We recognize that these requests often come in a time of immediate crisis - you will be notified with what we have available to offer as soon as possible. We work hard to ensure best utilization of funds, with help from our partnering agencies.

Program Development & Suggestions

This is a pilot program, and is subject to change. We are working on a best practice model in order to grant every request we receive. We invite feedback from local agencies as we further develop the Community Fund.
