ITHACA, NY…Finger Lakes ReUse and the Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA), Ithaca-based non-profit organizations, are collaborating to march, dance, and make music together in the Ithaca Festival Parade on Thursday, May 30. This project is made possible by grants generously provided by the Park Foundation.
On Sunday, May 26th from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Ithaca ReUse Center (214 Elmira Road, Ithaca, NY), Finger Lakes ReUse will be holding a Creative ReUse Instrument Making Workshop with local artist-inventor John Fuchs. Attendees will learn how to make their own percussion instrument out of reused materials to play in the parade with materials provided from the Ithaca ReUse Center inventory or an upcycled parade instrument from home.
On Wednesday, May 29th from 5:30-6:30 PM in Martha Hamblin Hall at CSMA (330 East State Street), there will be a Dance Workshop with CSMA faculty teaching artist, Megan Omohundro. Anyone who would like to dance on the parade route can practice choreography that will be easy and accessible for anyone to do.
Everyone who participates with the CSMA/Finger Lakes ReUse in the Ithaca Festival parade on Thursday, May 30th will receive a gift certificate for $10 off a future class at CSMA. All ages welcome (age 8 or younger must be accompanied by an adult). Colorful sashes made out of reused fabric will be available for marchers, too!
