Finger Lakes ReUse Temporarily Closing Donations Acceptance Areas
Finger Lakes ReUse will be TEMPORARILY CLOSING its Donation Drop Off areas at both the Ithaca ReUse Center and the Triphammer ReUse MegaCenter effective this Monday morning, June 7th. Our ReUse Centers will be open daily for business as usual.
This year, we’ve received a very generous outpouring of material donations. Right now, we have over 580 pallets of overflow materials – roughly the equivalent of 400,000 reuseable items.
To protect our workers, create physically safer spaces, and process what you’ve given us, we cannot accept any new material donations, and we plan this to last about 4 weeks, until early July. Watch for further updates. Our ReUse Centers will remain open for business to ensure your previously donated materials continue to reach others in our community.
How can you help us create the just, resilient and waste-free world – valuing both people and resources – that we all deserve?
- Become a sustainer! Make us a recurring gift today of $5, $10, or $20 or a one-time gift of whatever you are able, to help us reduce waste, relieve poverty, and create environmentally-positive jobs.
- Be a ReUser! Shop at our two ReUse Centers for your material needs – we’re still open for reuse shopping 7 days a week.
- Volunteer with us! With strict safety measures in place, we’re offering a number of volunteer positions at your favorite ReUse location.
- Learn more about reuse impacts, and how to reuse on local and global levels.
- Share your ideas with us. Email robin@fingerlakesreuse.org to share your feedback.
We extend our deepest gratitude for the daily inspiration, creativity, and generosity of all the community reusers out there. We look forward to announcing the reopening of our donations acceptance areas with you next month.
Changes at the ReUse Caboose
The ReUse Caboose, Warehouse and Training Center, our temporary location located at 700 W. Buffalo St., is no longer open for 7-day-a-week shopping to the public. Stay tuned for pop-up sales there this summer!
This space, opened in August 2020 as a temporary location to provide much-needed space for materials and job training opportunities, has helped us get through a challenging 2020 and allowed us to continue accepting donated materials in volumes well beyond what we could have without this warehouse. It has helped us demonstrate our community’s need for more materials reuse, and we look forward to growing into a permanent facility to provide even more convenient, accessible reuse for the whole community.
This pilot Training Center program we began in this space has been generously supported by Tompkins County, Park Foundation, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Triad Foundation, the Community Foundation of Tompkins County, Legacy Foundation of Tompkins County, and a generous Anonymous Donor. We are continuing to recruit for and build this program collaboratively with partners including TST BOCES and Tompkins Workforce NY using Roots of Success curriculum.
Face-Covering Rules at our ReUse Centers
Finger Lakes ReUse has updated our face-covering requirements for vaccinated community members per New York State guidelines. Fully vaccinated ReUsers may shop without a face covering at our locations, and we ask that all visitors continue to keep at least 6 ft of distance from each other for the safety and comfort of everyone.
ReUse MegaCenter Improvements
Have you stopped by our expanded ReUse MegaCenter at Triphammer Marketplace lately? Even if you were there just last month, you are likely to be amazed at the changes since you were last in.
Since introducing our combined two storefronts as the ReUse MegaCenter last month, with over half an acre of reuse materials available, we have been reorganizing, adding new items daily, and sprucing up our space. Take a look at our “glow up”:
