Nick was a ReSET Retail Apprentice from April 2022 through May 2023.
What drew you to our apprenticeship at ReUse & how long have you been working with us?
I was recommended by Jessica Orkin from ReUse who used to be a pre-teen staff member at Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC) and knew me from my days as a student at GIAC. I applied and was hired as a ReSET Retail apprentice and I’ve been a ReSET Retail apprentice now since the April of 2022 with ReUse.
What is your favorite part of working at ReUse?
I’ve gotten the opportunity to train at both the Triphammer and Elmira road locations, and the staff relationships have been the best part of my experience. All staff have been encouraging and supportive.
What have you learned about the community or the concept of reuse and its environmental impacts since working and training as an apprentice here?
I have learned that Re-Using already used items is a way to keep items out of the landfill and give them a second chance. Even young kids can learn and enjoy the concept of ReUse.
What do you feel you bring to the ReUse team?
I help both customers and staff. I’m funny, and I like to bring joy to others.
Tell us a few fun facts about yourself.
I love BEYONCE. I love wearing pink on Wednesdays because it represents “mean girls.” I also work part time at GIAC and will be transitioning there permanently at the end of my apprenticeship with ReUSE. My favorite rapper is ski mask slump God. I also love the Wu-Tang Clan,
and the song “Bird is the Word.”
Thank you Nick, for sharing your experience, and for being apart of the ReSet Training Program!
