Lansing Lake House Decon

Finger Lakes ReUse salvaged 3.2 tons of material from a 1929 lake house in Lansing during fall 2024. The owner faced a failing foundation and chose to recover materials before demolition. Working with 2 volunteers, 4 employees, and the building contractor, the team removed vanities, plumbing, deck boards, cabinetry, electrical panels, windows, and insulation. Most materials returned to the community immediately. Eleven windows went into 2 local buildings before winter. 120 square feet of deck boards found new life in a pavilion at Acorn Nature School. The deconstruction kept material equivalent to the carbon sequestered by 3.4 acres of forest in one year out of landfills.
